THE COLONY GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

GENERAL MANAGER ' S MESSAGE

As we embark upon a challenging upcoming season , I would like to thank each and every one of you for your patience , understanding and support over the past six months . The global pandemic has touched every single human being in one way or another . It is my hope and prayer that you and your loved ones have not been severely affected and that blue skies are ahead .
Club Management has been justifiably tasked to provide an environment where you can feel confident and welcomed to come and enjoy the amenities the Club has to offer . We want the Club to be “ the place to be ”, whether you are utilizing the gym , attending fitness classes , playing golf or tennis , or dining . Although we have extensive cleaning and disinfecting protocols in place , the Club cannot guarantee a germ-free environment and Members , along with their guests , assume all COVID-19 risks in using Club amenities .
You will be pleased to find the golf course to be in fabulous condition and quite possibly the best in Southwest Florida . The rave reviews continue to pour in regarding the performance of “ Super ” Superintendent Jeff Price and the golf maintenance team . The team addressed many necessary projects that will be beneficial for the long term health of the golf course while continuing the commitment to eradicating Bermuda grass intrusion . Jeff has also coordinated the beautifying of clubhouse areas with additional flower beds , and new to the Club will be a “ Chef ’ s Garden ” allowing Chef Carlos to grow his own herbs and micro greens .
Director of Golf Scott Smith , and new Head Golf Professional Doug Rhea , have created a golf schedule that will ensure a fun and challenging golf season . The golf team have a few new twists on the calendar that will hopefully provide new and fresh ideas to The Colony . The new 2020-2021 Golf Handbook will be available in early November , so Members will be able to have all the information necessary in order to plan for the upcoming golf tournaments and events .
The Sports Club team is pleased to promote Gerard Matze to Director of Tennis . Former Director , Joe Snailum , who provided us with wit , humor and energy for the past four years , has deservedly retired and is planning on moving home to Texas . Ben Albers joins the tennis department as Head Tennis Professional , assuming Gerard ’ s former role . Please extend congratulations to Gerard and a warm welcome to Ben . Lindsey Lewis joined our Sports Club Team as Coordinator in early October and is getting acquainted with the Membership . Velda Goren will once again be leading her fitness classes to enliven the senses and keep the mind , body and soul on a healthy path to wellness .
