From the CEO
Friends,
I’ve completed my first year at the Home, and what a year it’s been! We cared for more than
8,000 children – a number we anticipate will continue to rise each year. We were happy to
partner with local mural artists, Often Seen Rarely Spoken, in March to paint a mural on the
side of Butchertown Market, complete with a new event, Paint Your Heart Out. The most
significant change happened with our Heroes for the Home fundraising breakfast. Attendance
increased by 25%, outgrowing our previous location and moving it to Churchill Downs. This
was my first Heroes breakfast and I loved the tremendous show of support from our sponsors
and community to support everything our organization does for children across the state.
That morning, we honored Joan and Lee Thomases’ lifetime of giving and significant support that allowed us to
care for tens of thousands of children throughout the years and helped build our children’s village. This issue’s
Hometown Help article shares a bit more about the impact they had on Home of the Innocents.
During Heroes, I shared stories about some kids we helped throughout the past year. One of those was served by
Open Arms Children’s Health, our outpatient pediatric medical center. She’s a refugee from Somalia, and she and
her family have been helped by the food pantry you’ll learn about in our More than Medications article.
In the blink of an eye, summer will be over and we’ll be sending our kids back to school. We’re already planning
back to school events to help get them ready, and you can make a difference by checking out the wish list on our
website and donating school supplies and uniforms or by making a financial donation.
As always, I am deeply appreciative of your support. We couldn’t do what we do without your collective support.
Sincerely,
Paul W. Robinson
