“ It takes just one person to make a difference,” said Sarah Felty, as she shared how her involvement with Home of the Innocents began.
In 2010, Sarah decided to support family friend Louis Kinnaird at his annual Toyland Christmas Fundraiser supporting the Home. She sold her homemade cupcakes at the event, raising $ 243 for the Home. Continuing the tradition year after year, she raised $ 2,267 this past holiday season.
But it’ s not all about raising money.“ I love it when kids who live at the Home come to Toyland Christmas. You realize they are why you’ re there. The kids are in such awe at the event and I made some cupcakes just for them. They’ re really surprised. They say,‘ Wow! Is this for us?!’ That’ s what it’ s all about.” she said.
Sarah has her own, more personal reasons for supporting the Home. In 2014, every dollar raised from Toyland Christmas was donated to the Home in honor of Sarah’ s beloved daughter Emma Grace who was stillborn from a rare chromosomal disorder. Her connection with the Home grew even deeper, knowing that the Home’ s Kosair Charities Pediatric Convalescent Center serves medically complex children.

But she cherishes all that the Home provides. Sarah recently took a tour of the Home and was blown away.“ It’ s not institutionalized like I thought it would be, but rather a home,” she said. Seeing first-hand the quality of the facility and hearing about the great care the kids receive drives her even more to continue supporting the Home.
Sarah recently agreed to volunteer her time and talent of making cupcakes with the kids. What started as one person doing something once a year is growing into something amazing.
You too can make a difference. We all can, just one person at a time.
