BACKGROUND

Commencing operations July 1 , 2015 , as a part of the executive branch of Georgia ’ s government , the Georgia Department of Community Supervision ( DCS ) is the state agency responsible for the supervision of all individuals serving an adult felony sentence . These individuals under supervision have either been granted parole or a reprieve by the State Board of Pardons or they have received probated or split sentences through Georgia ’ s courts . Founded on a mission and vision toward being a national leader for community supervision , DCS was charged with curating efficiencies and the Department has made significant strides towards the use of innovation , forward-thinking strategies , and progressive practices in its supervision
philosophy .
Prior to the start of 2020 , DCS had already implemented several statewide initiatives to increase efficiency and performance . In fact , DCS is statutorily required to implement evidence-based practices into the Department ’ s service delivery model . A few notable initiatives include the use of the virtual office concept , the use of integrated technology such as the body-worn camera device to ensure fidelity to the evidence-based principles found in our Enhanced Supervision Program , the use of community coordination and housing resources to provide placement for those needing essential services , the implementation of automation within the case management system , and the use of a blended basic training model whereby Community Supervision Officer cadets complete a combination of on-site , onground , or on-campus training and online academic courses to become a certified Community Supervision Officer .
