CORONAVIRUS IMPACT ON GEORGIA COMMUNITY SUPERVISION

Following the Executive Action taken by Georgia Governor Brian P . Kemp , DCS committed to doing its part to assist communities impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak . DCS offices remained open by appointment only and access to secure areas was restricted . The main aim was to ensure community supervision and reentry services were still provided in a manner that protected the community yet prioritized the health of employees . DCS Community Supervision Officers and employees began utilizing video and telephone interactions whenever possible to remain in contact with individuals under supervision and other criminal justice stakeholders .
Hundreds of DCS Community Supervision Officers provided security at testing stations and emergency management centers that housed protective equipment . In addition , DCS helped create efficiencies with other state agencies by partnering with the Georgia Department of Human Services to ensure their employees had the necessary equipment and accessibility for teleworking .
Nonetheless , during challenging times , such as the 2020 global pandemic , organizational operations were reviewed and adjusted to fit the overall needs of the communities served by DCS . This report outlines three initiatives DCS implemented prior to the onset of the global pandemic to improve the quality of service delivery for those under supervision in Georgia .
