The 2017-18 middle school musical , “ Beauty and the Beast Jr .,” was a hit , drawing in large audiences . Middle school students will perform “ Mary Poppins Jr .” in 2018-19 .

Fine arts programs continue to grow , perform strongly

As Northwest ISD ’ s student population continues to rapidly increase , so too do its fine arts programs . During the 2018- 19 school year , the Fine Arts Department showcased that growth with the district ’ s first-ever Northwest ISD Marching Band Showcase .
The event served as a way to highlight the Byron Nelson , Eaton and Northwest marching bands while also including all five middle school bands . It followed another successful marching season for the district , where once again all three programs earned Division I ratings – the highest score possible – at the regional meet .
Fine arts programs as a whole also had another strong year , with the high schools amassing more than 20 awards nominations between the Betty Lynn Buckley Awards and Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Theatre

Awards . Additionally , Eaton ’ s one-act play advanced to the UIL regional round for the first time in school history , and the second consecutive year a Northwest ISD drama program advanced to regionals .
Musicians were again a bright spot for the district , with 16 high school students named to the Texas Music Educator Association ’ s all-state music groups – the most students selected from Northwest ISD in at least two decades . Each high school placed at least four students to the list .
Dr . Kevin Lacefield , executive director of fine arts , said this year ’ s accolades embody the effort put in by educators and students alike .
