T
his is just one of sever-
al buildings spotted by the
producers of the SyFy show Z
Nation, a show about a zombie
apocalypse, that is filmed in
Spokane and was the location
of much of Season 1. But, this
is a manufacturing company
with capacity and big plans
for a future in aerospace. They
are on the move and have been
working to build their aero-
space foundation in the region.
They have 163,350 square
feet of building space over 46
acres. Their fabrication and
manufacturing buildings are
in buildings 1, 2, and 3. They
have a coatings facility and
electrical assembly and surface
prep.
With 25-35 percent of their
business in aerospace, pri-
marily in tooling, Highwood
Global is looking to expand
their aerospace functions, and
they have the credentials to do
so. They are working directly
with major aerospace/aircraft
companies (OEM’s), as well
as a significant number of Tier
1 suppliers.
For aerospace, they primarily
make tooling parts used in
aerospace production — a
fixture to align a wing, for ex-
ample. They manufacture and
support both production and
automation tooling; one recent
project was a tool that was
80 feet long, used to install
hydraulics and wiring on an
aircraft.
Marketing and Sales Manager, Frank Owens said,
“Being a contract manufacturer, we quote a variety of
products. We need to be competitive. If it’s not in our
wheelhouse we tell the customer up front. We don’t
exaggerate our capabilities. We often receive
RFPs directly (from the buyer).”
