ASSOCIATION FOR UNMANNED VEHICLE SYSTEMS SPOTLIGHT B auer and his father had good cause to make the change. In 1995, they received an order for some custom cases from a Seattle-based aerospace company named Boeing. That order soon became another, and another — and then a contact. “We’ve had a contract with them for the past 20 years,” said Bauer. Boeing is hardly alone in relying on Bauer. Other clients include Lockheed- Martin, Insitu, FLIR Systems, Honeywell and Columbia Helicopter — and those are just the company’s aerospace clients. It also makes cases for Intel, Louisiana- Pacific and numerous other companies in the broadcast media, firearms and medical industries. Constant Contact Bauer attributes his success to a relentless focus on the needs of his customers; he and his sales staff are in constant contact with their clients, to understand and even anticipate their needs. “Every week, I drive up to Seattle and visit every Boeing plant,” Bauer said. “We try to be in front of our customers all the time, so that we are hearing what they are really saying. It’s valuable for that reason alone, but it also shows respect to the customer — we understand what they are doing, and we’re ready to help them achieve it.” One of his representatives in the high- tech sector visits Intel three times a week. “That’s what’s required to just to keep up … to be able to navigate around the organization and meet everybody,” he explained. That commitment has made it possible for Bauer to help his clients solve some crucial — and potentially very expensive — problems. JUNE | JULY 2019 ISSUE NO. 9 57
