Devon Papandrew , vice president of business development , joined the company in 2021 after working at Spaceflight , a satellite rideshare business . He ’ s also worked in software development with energy-efficient LED lighting . He was interested in the space industry and said , “ I saw an opportunity ” to start working in space .
What does a business developer for a rocket company do ? He said he talks with “ satellite customers who need satellites launched .” While Stoke isn ’ t yet in orbit or launching , they are pre-booking flights . They are also developing partnerships for technology development with non-profits and government agencies . He travels quite a bit for the role , “ There ’ s a lot you can do virtually , and there ’ s a lot you can ’ t .” When in front of customers , he likes to demonstrate the hardware and technology . Papandrew said there are about a dozen trade shows they ’ ll hit in 2023 , where they can see their customers in person .
Interestingly he said , “ There are not enough rockets launching , but there are many launch companies .” The value proposition for Stoke has the proper “ thesis or approach , team , and ability to execute .” He noted that the track record of the staff , along with an understanding of “ customer pain points ” and what they need , will help them to develop .
