T
he company, TacAero, is one of three intertwined Hood River-based aero-
space companies that includes Hood Tech Vision, which builds high-fidelity
cameras for drones, and Hood Tech Mechanical, which builds the structures that
house and mount the cameras.
Boeing’s Insitu unmanned aerial vehicle division in nearby Bingen, WA is the
primary customer for the cameras and mounts.
The TacAero division’s bread and butter is the more prosaic business of being
the fixed base operator for the Port of Hood River’s Ken Jernstedt Airfield, of-
fering fueling, maintenance and other aviation services to the 100-or-so private
aircraft that call the airport home, hosting aerial biplane tours of the scenic
Columbia Gorge and providing factory-certified training for owners of Cub-
Crafter’s single-engine planes, built in Yakima.
