The next event was held at the brand new Historic Flight Foundation hangar, also at Felts Field. ”Recruited by Spokane International Airport and industry leaders, HFF will replicate their education-based flight museum at a newly built hangar at Felts Field in October 2019. As an incubator of ideas, the core of HFF is to involve youth in aviation-based STEM education. Students at the 5th, 8th, and 11th grade levels will be taught through modules of core curriculum in a classroom setting, then have “hands on” experienc- es with the planes based at the Felts Field facility. Community College of Spokane students may apply their knowledge in the HFF restoration shop to fulfill their license requirements for the Airframe and Powerplant credential. With a burgeoning aerospace industry in our region, the HFF collaboration within the STEM network can create career opportunities in job force training of aviation mechanics and pilots. The 5.1 million dollar, 20,600 square-foot facility will be the premier resource for channeling motivated teens to ground schools, flight and maintenance training for the intermoun- tain region.” 2 In this issue we are excited to bring more information regarding the workforce devel- opment efforts, with an article on the Boeing Core Plus curriculum that is available to forward thinking schools and the impact it is having on bringing opportunities to our young people. We are also thrilled to share with you the story of a long-standing resource to this industry — one with a historic background and cutting edge opportunities — Emb- ry-Riddle Aeronautical University. These efforts and organizations and many more like them provide the building blocks for the future of aviation and aerospace manufacturing, not only in our back yard but also for the industry as a whole. It will be programs and efforts like these that will keep us on track, rising to the occasion and meeting industry needs.
