To inspire young people to fill this gap we will need programs that reach their interest. It needs to catch
their attention early in their decision making process. High school, junior high — even middle and
elementary school — are not too early. I recently attended two local events at Felts Field in Spokane,

Boeing recently donated a GEnx 787 Dreamliner engine to the Spokane Community College Aviation
Maintenance Technology Program. It is a massive boost to the program and sure to inspire and educate
students needed in the maintenance field.
“Boeing values partnering with educational programs like Spokane Community College that prepare
people for exciting careers in manufacturing and beyond,” said Bill McSherry, vice president, Govern-
ment Operations, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “Boeing is proud to help inspire tomorrow’s aviation
professionals through the donation of this 787 engine. We hope working on this engine allows the next
generation of leaders to follow their dreams.”
