According to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics (2018) the unemploy-
ment rate for those with a disabil-
ity (8.0 percent) is twice what it
is for those with no disability (3.7
percent). The unemployment rate
for those with blindness is at a
staggering 70 percent but accord-
ing to Chron.com,
“While the unemployment rate of the blind is often quoted
as 70 to 75 percent, this statistic does not necessarily
reflect the percentage of blind people who want to
work but are unable to find jobs.”
While the company is providing jobs in a variety of locations, including
on military bases within base supply stores, there are other locations where
job fulfillment could occur. O’Hara said, “There is a geographic expansion
committee within our board. They look at the need for blind employment,”
within a region.
