heir current focus at magniX
is liquid cooled, high-power, elec-
tric motors in traditional fixed-wing
aircraft. They are focused on convert-
ing passenger and cargo aircraft that
currently use the Pratt & Whitney PT6
engines. That includes aircraft like the
Cessna Caravan, de Havilland Beaver
and Otter (single and twin), and the
Beechcraft King Air.
“We are talking about clean flying —
zero emissions and zero fuel,” said
Ganzarski.
The dream of taking the product to
market is made possible through the
ownership of magniX, who are vested
in a long game for the company.
Because the company is funded, they
can focus on what is right for the long
term and rapidly expand using top
engineering talent while also applying
for patents on their technology.
The company has been in a research
and development mode, but the
parent company believes in the vision
that electric propulsion will connect
communities. Ganzarski said, “Aero-
space is a long game. The technology,
regulation, and complexity require a
long-term investment and (they) have
funded (the company) 100% for this
technology. We can make long-term
decisions and don’t have to seek new
financing every 18 months.”
The response by Boeing and Airbus to
the electric aviation space, according
to Ganzarski, has been “cautiously
high.” They have been in discussion
and he said that the new Boeing
HorizonX division is encouraging
to startups like magniX, although
magniX itself is not seeking funding.
“They have their toe in the water and
are doing the right thing given their
size and position,” he added.
