W hen assigned to Strategic Command (STRATCOM) in 2015, I had just that type of experience. At the time I was at STRATCOM, the unit oversaw the Air Force Space Command, Cyber Command, and the entire nuclear enterprise. Thus, I had to quickly learn the laws and regulations that applied to space and cyber operations. And, I was quickly placed on a special project to advocate for and then develop a new counter-unmanned aerial systems (UAS) policy that resulted in a ground-breaking law in 2016. Being thrown into these aerospace-related legal issues was challenging and exciting. What I have found most enjoyable has been working directly with a unit. I enjoy being shoulder to shoulder with the mission planners and assisting the mission to go smoothly and spotting issues before they become problems. What makes that job even better is to be able to watch talented professionals do amazing things. I have worked with logisticians planning complex operations across countries in a combat zone, government contracting personnel writing contracts for services across Europe, space operators protecting the critical services, and security personnel protecting assets vital to our national security. Each one of these professionals must be more than competent at their job and are counting on their attorney to be the same. Northwest Readers SHARE A STORY Have a story to share with our readers?
