Newtrax is a nonprofit collaborative
organization that provides daily
transportation from home to work and
back for approximately 600 adults with
disabilities in the Northeast Metro
area. Newtrax owns a fleet of more
than 45 accessible vehicles and runs its
own dispatch center and maintenance
garage. Newtrax was founded in 2011
by member organizations Merrick, Inc.
and PAI, Inc. to create efficiencies and
reduce redundancies in transportation,
IT and financial management. Merrick
and PAI are nonprofit organizations that
provide vocational and life enrichment
services to adults with intellectual or
developmental disabilities. All three
organizations operate with a passion
about removing barriers to under-
served populations. Based in Vadnais Heights, Merrick,
Inc., is a nonprofit organization that
provides employment support and life
enrichment services to over 375 adults
with intellectual or developmental
disabilities in the Twin Cities. Founded
in 1964, Merrick offers a variety of work
options along with meaningful hands-on
activities including music therapy, pet
therapy, art, horticulture activities, and
day trips into the local communities. Northeast Residence is a non-profit
organization that has been providing
programs and services to adults and
children with developmental disabilities
since 1973. Through a commitment to
person-centered care, our programs
improve the quality of life for both
the people we support and their
families. Our programs include Adult
Day, Extended Day, Respite Care and
In-home Services along with Long-term
care homes. We employee 285 people
and support individuals and families
from 28 Minnesota communities.
From the beginning, Newtrax has been
a shared endeavor with one vision:
safety, efficiency, collaboration and –
most importantly – responsiveness to
the unique needs of its clients. Newtrax
works toward keeping seniors and
adults with disabilities more engaged in
their community by providing access to
community events, outings and social
activities. Visit the website (below) for
more information.
Through person-centered planning and
self-advocacy, clients at Merrick find their
place in the world by working in desired
and meaningful jobs, being actively
engaged in their communities, building
relationships, enhancing personal skills,
and leading more self-determined lives.
Community members can support
Merrick’s mission of empowering adults
with disabilities by volunteering, referring
