The motto for most Pacific Northwest anglers
is, no fish too far. And that includes Alaska’s
king salmon. To put myself in this situation
I drove from Ennis, Montana to Seattle,
Washington. The following morning I caught a
flight to Anchorage, Alaska. After overnighting
in Anchorage I flew to Cold Bay and then, later
in the day, I climbed into a tiny two-seat plane
for a flight to the remote native village called
Nelson Lagoon. After negotiating a Jeep 40
miles down a wild beach on the Bering Sea, I
came tight to this fish. After a long fight in a
barreling wind, with seals trying to steal this
king off of my line, I brought this chromer to
the beach and snapped a quick “trophy” shot.
