Omak Lake Pre-Spawn

Lake and the “cruisers” in the
shallows.
This
phenomena
generally happens a little later in the
year, but with the another round of the
Pineapple Express heading our way and
unseasonable highs, the Lahotans are
cruising the beaches looking for an easy
bite—and this leads to some of the most
epic takes in all of fly fishing.
The hot shop-fly has been the “Circus
Peanut,” an articulated masterpiece
which can elicit crushing strikes from
almost any hungry piscatorial pursuer.

action as it is stripped back, and while
you watch a pack of feeding Lahotans
chase it into the shadows you will soon
see why it drives a predator wild. The
shop favorites have been the tan-onolive and the straight olive. Keith’s
Skull Head Sculpin has been a crushing
success as well.
Keith, Tanner and I hit Omak Lake right
before the Mission Bay Closure, and the
action was incredible.
We worked up and down the bank in the
morning, casting to where the light met

in the tan and the black configurations.
As we drummed along, testing the new
iPilot system Tanner hooked me up with,
we kept pulling decent fish in t HM
