NO ’ EAU CENTER Tutoring
The No ’ eau Center offers distance tutoring in all subject areas . Tutoring services are free and available to anyone in the University of Hawai ' i- West O ' ahu community .
The center has tutors available Monday- Thursday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM and Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM ( by appointment only ).
To schedule an appointment for phone or video chat tutoring , please call 689-2750 to make an appointment . You are also welcome to email us at uhwowc @ hawaii . edu . Be sure to specify that you need a distance session and also let us know what platform you prefer ( e . g . Google Chat , Skype , Blackboard ).
The No ’ eau Center ’ s tutoring philosophy is to promote life-long learning for students at all levels of ability to gain the skills necessary for effective , confident , and independent learning . While tutoring may help raise students ' grades , our primary focus is developing students ' learning skills . Tutors can assist students in the following areas :
• Brainstorm ideas
• Understanding concepts
• Practicing problems
• Develop strategies for breaking down projects into manageable and achievable tasks
• Increase awareness of procrastination and identify ways to get back on track
• Assist with exam preparation and test taking strategies
Tutoring appointments are 50 minutes long . To make the best of your tutoring session , be sure to be prepared with questions to ask your tutors . If you have any questions about clarification on your assignment , a tutor might refer you to check in with your professor . The No ’ eau Center tutors equips its staff to review essays holistically . The No ’ eau Center tutors do not spell check , grammar check , or proof-read essays , but the Center ’ s tutors work with students to assist them in developing the skills to apply spell check , grammar check , and revise the student ’ s own work .
