Concept Vision Development Ararat province’s mountains Cattle-breeding in Aragatsotn Winemaking Landscape Cultivated Landscape Products In this region all kinds of transitions can be found: from mountain plateau to plain, from slight and lat slopes to steep and abrupt ones. In some parts the relief is complicated by uneven landscape with multiple minor ridges of various size and shape. This zone is typically agricultural. Major crops are grains – wheat, barley, and oats. Here livestock-raising and fruit-growing is also well developed. Crops are both irrigated and rain fed: in the lower sub-zone it is irrigated, in the upper sub-zone ield crops can be cultivated without any irrigation. Steep land is used for fodder production and pastures prevail. Agricultural crops include apricot, cherry, pear, peach, apple, quince, plum, melon, walnut, grapes and berries. Cattle-breeding includes wool-bearing, goat farming, poultry farming and bee-keeping The region is famous for its wine industries. The discovery of the 6100 year-old Areni-1 winery has provided increased awareness of the ancient tradition of wine-making in Armenia creating the return to roots» movement. Also famous for its agricultural products is one of the most important region of Armenia. 21
