Dry highlands Region

Geographical features
Dry highlands areas occupy the north west part and central of the country that lies of 800- 1300 .
Climate features
The climate here is warm and dry . Dry mountaintops are post-landscape landscapes in the north-west and central prefectures of the republic , which have arisen as a result of long-term human activity . The average annual precipitation is 230-300 mm . The main landill is mountain grey landscapes that represent them . In the cultivated areas , lands have been subjected to improvement , stone cleaning , desalination , chemistry , drainage , artiicial irrigation and have become cultivated and irrigated . During the period of precipitation , which is mainly spring , semi-deserts are covered with esophagus ( short ) vegetation . These are quickly dried in warm days and as soon as the summer comes . This zone of most plants are oshane , wormwood , aghatsaghike , aghahaskike , phryganoid ( reach with mountainous dry ) vegetation , dominated by several types of gas .

Architecture
Adapted to the particular climatic conditions and building materials of the region the buildings are mainly constructed by stone ( basalt and tufa ) with wooden elements . The stone used in buildings is typically quarried all at the same location , in order to give the structure a uniform colour . Wood and stone is used in shed , gable as well as lat roof shapes combined with large loggias and porches are the main architectural features of the region .

Materials
A large variety of coloured tufa can be found among the façades of the buildings of the region . The stones are extracted by the north west region of Shirak . The area is the largest producer of building materials in Armenia and worldwide famous of its production of tufa , pumice and limestone .
Wood is used for architectural elements ( loggias , balconies and roofs ) as well as ornament of the façades . Usually carved by local crafter , wooden ornaments are part of the traditional architecture and art .
