GUIDE FOR CHAPTER OFFICERS
A Guide For Chapter Presidents
1) The President’s Duties
a) Preside over and conduct meetings according to accepted parliamentary procedure
b) Call special meetings of the Chapter
c) Keep members on subject and within the time limit allotted
d) Appoint committees as needed or mandated and serve as exofficio member
e) Represent the organization and speak on occasion on behalf of the Chapter
f) Responsible for ensuring the Chapter is compliant with their 5 Star Charter
g) Keep general order of the chapter
h) Liaison to the chapter Alumni
i) Represent the chapter on a National level on the Council of Presidents

2) Preparing to carry out these duties
a) Become familiar with procedures of conducting meetings
i) Types of meetings
(1) Regular – schedules and follows outlined procedures
(2) Special – does not follow outline procedure and handles urgent matters as
necessary
ii) Characteristics of satisfactory regular meetings
(1) Carefully planned in advance by the executive committee and chapter alumni
advisor
(2) Start and close on time
(3) Proceed according to an established order of business
(4) Conducted according to an accepted parliamentary procedure. It may be
appropriate to have a parliamentarian/ sergeant at arms.
(5) Officers check committee reports before meetings begin
(6) Good meetings combine business and fun
(a) Be firm – especially when ideals and principles are at stake, but try not to
give offense.
(b) Command respect at all meetings by having a solid grasp on all sides of
an issue or challenge
b) Memorize and discuss the mission statement of Nu Alpha Kappa. All
disputes and challenges should be addressed through the lens of the NAK
Mission Statement:

students in a more harmonious and brotherly atmosphere through
