The role of Historian is both nostalgic and wonderful : I ’ ve been able to chronicle what the national JCL community has been up to , starting with last year ’ s national convention at Emory and following clubs throughout the year as they celebrate Roman holidays , carrying out different projects , and attend events held by my lovely fellow NJCL officers . Let me take the time in this note to thank you all , as a community , for both choosing me for this position and for sharing your updates and your spirit with me through photos .
As I ’ ve chronicled the 2023-2024 NJCL year for this scrapbook , I ’ ve been struck by an interesting duality : the community ’ s simultaneous variety and unity . We are diverse in our interests and approaches to JCL , but we are united by a deep love for the classical world . Reflecting on this idea in combination with President Krish ’ s chosen theme for this year , which revolves around ingenuity , I chose to give this scrapbook the theme of origami . If you ’ re anything like me , when folding a tricky origami pattern , you have no idea what ’ s going on at first .
