Hunterdon County Local 188 members participated in the Police Support Recovery Basketball Fundraiser on April 7 to fight the drug epidemic.
The fundraiser raised $2,000 for the new Hunterdon Recovery
Center in Flemington, which is an affiliate of Hunterdon Prevention Resources and the Hunterdon County Family Success Center. It will be used to provide alternative healthy resources and
activities for people recovering from addictions.
“It was amazing,” said Amanda, a recovering addict who helps
run the Recovery Center. “I hope it really helps the community
see that it’s okay to ask for help and not be afraid to dial 9-1-1
when there is an overdose.”
The event was such a success that both the Hunterdon Recovery Center and Local 188 plan to run it annually.
“We had a blast with a wonderful group of men and women
to raise money and awareness in an effort to fight addiction and
enter recovery,” wrote Simmons on Local 188’s Facebook page.
“Even though our team didn’t win the tournament, we all walked
away with big smiles and feeling great.” d
