The NJ State PBA’ s June 28 monthly meeting in Atlantic City concluded with three Locals making presentations to the NJ State PBA Survivor and Welfare Fund.
State Delegates from Woodland Park Local 173, Paterson Local 1 and Roselle Park Local 27 presented checks to State PBA President Patrick Colligan.
Local 173 hosted its second annual Families Behind the Badge Softball Tournament on May 21 and raised $ 9,000 for the Fund.
“ When something happens to law enforcement, the families are left behind asking‘ What do I do now?’” acknowledged Local 173 State Delegate Daniel Dugan.“ To be able to take away some of that financial burden means a lot to us.”
Local 1 donated $ 7,400 from its beefsteak dinner and Local 27 donated $ 1,000 from its golf outing.
Local 173 hopes to start a similar fund to take care of its own members who are on disability or struggling through a difficult time.
“ That’ s why we call the tournament“ Families Behind The Badge,’” explained Dugan.“ We had an officer who was diagnosed with breast cancer and is in remission, but going out on disability is not easy. We think it’ s a great idea to have a Survivor and Welfare Fund that can help our officers.” d
