Allendale-Waldwick Local 217 honors fallen officer
Christopher Goodell at annual Easter Egg Hunt
Allendale-Waldwick Local 217 members spent thousands of dollars purchasing candy and gifts before devoting many hours of
manpower to stuffing the sweets into plastic Easter eggs, then dispersing the toys across the Waldwick High School football field for
their 22nd annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 19.
“We spend six to eight hours getting everything ready and it’s
cleaned up in less than five minutes,” described Local 217 State Delegate Vinny Rizzo. “This is one of our biggest events, where we give
back to the communities that treat us so well.”
More than 1,000 people attend the yearly Easter Egg Hunt, which

is even more meaningful to the Local after renaming the event “The
Christopher Goodell Memorial Easter Egg Hunt,” last year, in honor
of the fallen officer who was stuck by a vehicle in the line of duty on
July 17, 2014.
Goodell was chairman of the event and looked forward to it year
after year.
“Chris had a sweet tooth and he loved to eat the candy,” recollected Rizzo. “To rename the event he loved so much in his honor
means his memory will last forever.” d
