26 NEW JERSEY COPS ■ MARCH 2014 PF RS ELECTION ATTENTION ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS This is your opportunity to make your voice heard regarding your pension and benefits UST READ M Ballots to elect a new New Jersey Police and Fireman’s Retirement System (PFRS) Board Trustee representing all police officers will be available on or after April 1. Balloting will continue through the end of May. This is the most important election you might ever vote in, considering the challenges all New Jersey police are facing regarding pensions and benefits. “Every single one of us is reliant upon the PFRS and we need to make sure it is there for us when we need it,” reminds Atlantic City police officer Keith Bennett, a candidate for the PFRS Board. “And yes, we will all need it at one point down the road. Just like any election, you need to vote and make your voice heard.” Bennett is listed as the second candidate on the PFRS ballot. Here are some simple guidelines to follow to vote and make your voice heard: You have the option for voting method. In the past, it has been by mail, telephone and online. PFRS is advocating using the online method. To access your online ballot, you will need to provide only your social security number and probably just the last four digits. You will be able to access the voting portal through the PFRS website: http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/pensions/pfrs1.shtml Or the NJ State PBA website: www.njspba.com Simply logging on does not take you to the ballot. You will need to find the link for voting, and that’s where you will most likely need to enter you SSN info. Vote for one candidate only. You should receive confirmation by email that you voted. If you have any questions, call 1-732-636-8860. If you want your voice to be heard, now is the time to act. And vote! d
