TRAINING STATION Job Products, Services, Classes and Seminars for On The Shooting training should be fun At RTSP in Randolph, where I work as the training coordinator, we have people come in all the time who are struggling to find out why they can’t shoot accurately and consistently. Some of these people are civilians and many of them are current or aspiring law enforcement officers. More often than not, we find that these people have trouble shooting as a result of no training, or because of failed training programs. So RICH NICOLETTI we have to ask why so many programs fail to teach these individuals adequately? What I have found in many cases is that most programs fail because the shooters become discouraged from lack of guidance, which turns into a lack of interest. The first thing we must do as instructors is to teach the shooters basic form: stance, grip, sight acquisition and trigger pull. As my boss always says, “It ain’t that hard.” Once the shooter builds confidence with small goals, such as creating tight shot groups at a short distance, we start to set higher goals such as moving the target out further, speeding up the shots slightly, etc. Within a relatively short period of time, many below-par to mid-level shooters can become proficient, thereby building confidence even
