A monster effort Media splash
Who was the per-
son dressed in the
T-Rex costume run-
ning all over Seaside
Heights the morning
of the plunge, photo
bombing and setting
the tone for what
would be the biggest,
wildest Polar Bear
Plunge ever?
The man play-
ing the T-Rex was a
Woodbridge
Local
38 member who pre-
ferred to be known
only as “Kevin.” Part of his mystique, apparently.
“Just trying to make people laugh and help out for a good
cause,” Kevin revealed.
The plunge would not be complete without the group from
Local 38. Each year, these members dress up in costumes befit-
ting their fun-loving, all-in approach to the event. The motif for
2017 featured eye patches, hooks and swords.
“We were going for pirates,” Local 38 Vice-President Dean
Janowski shared. “We’re looking pretty good as you can see, es-
pecially the T-Rex. Usually, he dresses up in a pig outfit, but this
year he decided to go outside the box.” d Piscataway
Town-
ship Local 93 took the
February dip into the
ocean with 15 of its
members. The plungers
explained that the Polar
Bear Plunge is just one
of many big fundrais-
ing events in which the
Local participates all
year, in support of the
Law Enforcement Torch
Run for Special Olym-
pics – an effort to help
all kids participate in
team-building activities.
Local 93 member Bill
Lemire knows the im-
portance of supporting
the cause, especially
when there are media outlets like News 12 New Jersey and “The
Big Joe Henry Radio Show” present to spread awareness across
the state.
“We need the general public to see what this is all about,”
stressed Lemire. “It’s meaningful for us to help out as much as
we can, and what better way on this beautiful day than to jump
in the water?” d
