Vigil,
and seeing the name of a fellow law enforcement officer engraved
on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall are
moments that truly capture the essence of the events. They were
special moments for members of the Newark Police Department
and the family of Newark Officer Reinaldo Arocha Jr., who lost his
life while on duty on Sept. 16, 2014.
Arocha suffered a heart attack shortly after he and
another officer worked together to subdue an emotionally
disturbed person who was taken into custody. After Arocha
returned to his patrol car to complete paperwork, he went
into cardiac arrest. A tow truck driver found him unresponsive, and responding units and a nurse performed CPR
until he was transported to a local hospital, but he could
not be revived.
Arocha served with the Newark Police Department for
23 years and is survived by his wife and two sons. d
