Veterans benefit from Berkeley Heights first responder game
On Oct. 7, Berkeley Heights Local 144 and the Berkeley Heights Fire Department met for bragging rights in the third annual Mayor’ s Cup Charity Softball Game. The teams of first responders went head-to-head in a rivalry tradition that raises money to renovate Veterans Memorial Park. This annual charitable effort ensures that the veterans don’ t have to pay for the park’ s renovation.
Local 144 took home the win for the third consecutive year, awarding them the prized Mayor’ s Cup trophy. But at the end of the day, it was the veterans who earned the true victory.
“ It’ s another great event,” Police Chief John DiPasquale shared.“ It was a nice, hard-fought game but once again, the veterans win. They are the winners here, and that’ s all that matters.” d www. njcopsmagazine. com ■ OCTOBER 2017 71
