Christopher Boes passed away on Aug. 9 at the age of 20 as a re- sult of injuries that he sustained as a passenger in a motor vehicle crash that occurred a few days earlier in a neighboring town. Prior to his death, Christopher had decided that he wanted to become a police officer. In the days that followed his death, Christopher’s par- ents, William and Sandra Boes, requested that family and friends make a donation to PBA Local 162 in lieu of sending flowers. Upon learning of the Boes’ request that donations be made to the PBA in Christopher’s memory, Local 162 President Thomas Valente made contact with them. William and Sandra Boes said they wanted people to donate to the PBA not only because Christopher wanted to be a police officer, but also because they support the police and they respect the hard work that police officers perform. Valente informed William and Sandra that the money would be put to good use and that the Local would honor Christopher. The Local, in collaboration with the Boes family and the WMTHS administration, decided to purchase two Drunk Buster pedal carts. The carts, along with their impairment simulation goggles, were in- corporated into the driver’s education curriculum and have already been utilized by students. Each cart was lettered with “In Memory of Christopher Boes, West Milford High School Class of 2014.” Additionally, Christo- pher’s baseball number (#28) and football number (#54) were in- corporated into the design. d
