described the day as“ surreal.”
“ I have to just tip my hat off to the men and women who go out and serve every day and put their lives on the line,” Parham said.“ I’ m just extremely proud of these officers and proud of the way the Department worked together. We caught a terrorist. That’ s no small feat.”
Parham, 47, has significant anti-terrorism training: He founded the Department’ s first counter-terrorism unit, worked with the state department’ s Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program and is a municipal representative on the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
“ You can train as much as you want but you never know how you are going to respond,” Parham said when asked if his training helped.“ I had very little to do with the apprehension other than incident command. The credit is due to our officers involved in engaging with the suspect, keeping their cool and returning fire.”
“ We have a phrase that we often joke about,‘ If you stay ready, you ain’ t got to get ready,’” Parham told ABC news anchor Amy Robach.“ These officers were ready.( I’ m) very, very proud of that.”
New Jersey, is“ very proud” of the Linden officers’ preparedness after they engaged in a shootout and captured the suspect in the New York and New Jersey explosions in September. It is our honor and privilege at Cop2Cop to recognize, support and serve all law enforcement in New Jersey, and it is equally important that law enforcement recognizes their efforts. God bless Chief Parham and the Linden Police Department, and God bless America. d www. njcopsmagazine. com ■ NOVEMBER 2016 77
