Berkeley Heights’ newly sworn
sergeant sure to make a difference
Berkeley Heights Local 144
member Trent Fettes was pro-
moted to sergeant on Feb. 19.
Police Chief John DiPasquale
participated in the swearing-in
ceremony, during which he
shared some of Fettes’ accom-
plishments while serving the
community.
The former U.S Marine joined
the Berkeley Heights Police De-
partment as a dispatcher in
2007. Soon after his hire, Fettes
attended the John H. Stamler
Police Academy and was sworn
in as a patrolman following graduation.
Throughout Fettes’ career, he has held a number of positions within the de-
partment and has had an impact in many ways, including his role as founder of
the Berkeley Heights Police Department Honor Guard and the original instructor
of the department’s Youth Academy.
Fettes was promoted to sergeant after finishing first out of 10 officers in a
comprehensive and competitive testing process. Berkeley Heights Mayor Angie
Devanney swore Fettes in as sergeant in the presence of his family and many
proud members of Local 144.
