Berkeley Heights’ newly sworn sergeant sure to make a difference Berkeley Heights Local 144 member Trent Fettes was pro- moted to sergeant on Feb. 19. Police Chief John DiPasquale participated in the swearing-in ceremony, during which he shared some of Fettes’ accom- plishments while serving the community. The former U.S Marine joined the Berkeley Heights Police De- partment as a dispatcher in 2007. Soon after his hire, Fettes attended the John H. Stamler Police Academy and was sworn in as a patrolman following graduation. Throughout Fettes’ career, he has held a number of positions within the de- partment and has had an impact in many ways, including his role as founder of the Berkeley Heights Police Department Honor Guard and the original instructor of the department’s Youth Academy. Fettes was promoted to sergeant after finishing first out of 10 officers in a comprehensive and competitive testing process. Berkeley Heights Mayor Angie Devanney swore Fettes in as sergeant in the presence of his family and many proud members of Local 144. 70 NEW JERSEY COPS ■ MARCH 2019 Sandy Hook Local 48 member sworn in as chief Sea Bright Police Department veter- an Brett M. Friedman was sworn in as police chief on March 5 after 25 years of dedicated service. The Sandy Hook Local 48 member was promoted from captain to chief in the presence of family members and many members of the Sea Bright com- munity, who were happy to support Friedman as he accepted this leader- ship role within the borough.
