Right off the bat for Middlesex County Sheriffs Members of Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office Local 165 must have knocked wood for luck on May 6, when they played in the South Brunswick Police Department wood bat baseball tourna- ment. Led by the tournament’s most valuable players Christian Pa- one and Josh Padilla, Local 165 emerged as tournament cham- pions by winning all five of their games. En route to the title, the Middlesex County Sheriffs defeated teams from Edison Town- ship Local 75, Port Authority Local 116 and East Brunswick Local 145. A wood bat tournament is just what it sounds like — players use wood bats rather than aluminum bats, which can make it tougher to get power on the ball. Nevertheless, Local 165 mem- bers Jim Kelly, Mike DeJoy, Dariusz Szczesny and Jessie Bista- ny each hit two home runs during the tournament. Other team members included Anthony Castrovinci, Marc Kramer, Mike DeTorrice, Tim Sheats and Gabriel Rodriguez. d www.njcopsmagazine.com ■ JUNE 2018 83
