We’ve launched several fundraisers, some more successful
than others. We found that our first-ever 5K fundraiser was our
most successful to date. The two primary beneficiaries were the
Brody Hydock Foundation and our Local. The Brody Hydock
Foundation is named in the memory of the son of one of our
members.
We also had an Oktoberfest Celebration fundraiser. Addi-
tionally, our Local members donated time to assist Habitat for
Humanity within our municipality. In that community service
effort, we helped with a residential housing project. The fund-
raisers and community service projects helped us generate
money, build camaraderie amongst the members, and help
build awareness of our Local in the community.
I met with Pat Colligan again recently to discuss our progress
and again seek advice as we approach another contract nego-
tiation before the end of the year. We have set new goals and
objectives based upon our meeting and the needs of our Local.
Among the goals and objectives is to increase our savings to
more than $100,000. We’d also like to computerize our manage-
ment system, and we would love to put a roof over our head.
Someplace that we can call our own.
We will continue to “pay ourselves first,” while looking out
for our local nonprofits and providing a reasonable amount of
assistance when and where we can. As always, we will continue
to support our brothers and sisters across the state in PBA-re-
lated matters.
We continue to chip away and try our best to exemplify a
strong and healthy, yet small Local. Our success is a true testa-
ment to the younger generation of officers who have stepped
up to carry on the mission of the PBA. d
