But here’s where the golf gets even more interesting: This sum-
mer, Crystal Springs will be hosting the first-ever NJ Law En-
forcement Shootout on July 12. Played at Ballyowen – named the
No. 1 public course in New Jersey by Golf Advisor and NJ Monthly
– an agency or Local can send its best players to compete.
At the end of the round, the six lowest scores will go on to play
five more holes with one golfer being eliminated on each hole.
The shootout will culminate at the 18th hole, where the winner
will get brag ging rights as the best law enforcement officer golfer
in the state and win a free floating membership.
But wait, there’s more: Enhance the golfing experience by tak-
ing advantage of the “Stay and Play” offer with unlimited week-
day play and the luxury of Crystal Springs’ two hotels and nine
unique dining venues. It also includes unlimited golf from sun-
rise on the day of arrival to sunset on the day of departure.
“You can have this package for Sunday to Thursday, but we’re
hoping to turn Wednesday night into First Responder Appreci-
ation Night at Black Bear,” Mulvihill explains. “We’ll have a pig
roast, and it would be cool if officers came in from Connecticut
or Cleveland. We want to create a haven for officers everywhere to
come to a place where they’re not constantly having to look over
their shoulders because somebody is always watching them.”
The appreciation menu also includes discounted packages for
spa and family getaways for first responder family members. And
there will be other unique touches that give props to cops that
Mulvihill believes they deserve.
One such touch will be getting patches from all the depart-
ments that come to play and using them to make flags for the
pins on the greens during the shootout and other events. Mulvi-
hill also has talked about building a monument to first respond-
ers on one of the courses.
“We’re trying to create a place for first responders to come and
feel good,” Mulvihill adds. “They take care of everybody else’s
needs, so we want to help them take care of themselves.” d
