Confessing t heir sins, they were bapt ized by him in the Jor dan River. 6  John wore clothing made of cam el’s hair, with a leather belt a round his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7  And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the s traps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and unt ie. 8  I bapt ize you with  e water, but he will bapt ize you with  e the Holy Spirit.” John the Baptist God sent John the Baptist to tell people that Jesus the Savior was coming. John faithfully followed God. He baptized many people and told them to ask God to forgive their sins. Jesus came to be baptized, and, even though Jesus had never sinned, John obeyed his request. 12  At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13  and he was in the wilderness for t y days, bei ng tempted   f by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels at tended him. The fish they caught in their nets were salted or dried and then sold all through the Holy Land. Jesus called his first disci- ples to be fishers of people in- stead of fishers of fish (Mark 1:16–18).
