Year 12/13 Camp
Earlier in the term our year 12 and 13 leadership
camp took place over three days.
The bus dropped us off on the southern side of
Maungatautari and we journeyed approximately 80
kilometers all the way back to Ngaruawahia High School.
It was both exciting and daunting as we stepped off
the bus knowing that we would have to tramp, paddle, and
run all the way home.
Day 1 included a 17km tramp over Maungatautari,
New Zealand’s first ecological island, and then a freezing
cold night in tents at Karapiro Domain.
Day 2 started with an 8km run along the newly
created cycle path from Karapiro to Cambridge, and then a
waka ama paddle from Cambridge to Grantham Street in
Hamilton. Finally we negotiated our way wet and tired
through 3oclock Hamilton traffic up to the university. It
was there that we enjoyed the warm comfortable
mattresses and showers and a great night sleep on the
marae.
Day 3 was our final leg home, which began with a
walk through the production gardens at the Hamilton
Gardens and finished with a paddle from Hamilton back to
Turangawaewae. Despite everyone feeling tired at the end
we all dug deep and helped Waki to pack the waka and
walk back into school where the journey first started.
The trip was an awesome experience, which pushed
us both physically and mentally.
The year 12 physical education class need to be
congratulated on their fantastic leadership in organising
and contributing to a successful camp.
Year 10 Camp
Year 10 Enterprise Studies Field Trip
Jahaira and Jazmyn interviewing the owner of
Jesters pie shop.
On Tuesday 5
April, Mrs Gray’s
Enterprise class
visited
various
businesses at The
Base to interview
the owners of the
businesses about
the
challenges
and rewards of
owning a business.
The students organized
their
appointments prior to
their visit and
went prepared
with their ques-
tionnaires and pens.
The people they interviewed were initially rather hesitant to
agree with the students’ request, but Tia persevered and helped
her fellow students with their appointments.
The interviews were carried out very well, with Jahaira especially interviewing her owner/manager with confidence and all students can be congratulated for conducting themselves as very good
representatives of Ngaruawahia High School.
