? ? Up Day for schools Through the Music Department plan for Concerts, and Band Festivals Encourage Stage Challenge Teams To show them a little of our background we took our visitors onto the river. Thanks to Matua Waki we were able to share our passion for Waka Ama with our guests who all got to paddle up the river and down to the Point. From what they said and the smiles on their faces they thoroughly enjoyed this new experience. Most had never been on the river, never been in a waka ama. Seeing them so enthusiastic about something we see everyday made us appreciate our small community lifestyle reminding us not to take things for granted. Our gift to each student were personally signed interschool t-shirts. All schools had fun writing on each other’s t-shirts. Sadly NHS missed out. The main lesson learnt I think was that no matter what your background, whether you come from fabulous school or not, no matter your differences, no matter where you live, youth are youth and we all have something in common. We are all striving toward something. We will all have roles to fulfil in the future. Ngaruawahia High School student leaders would like to thank our fellow leaders from Albany, Te Awamutu and Otorohanga high schools for making this day one of genuine “youth leadership.” Thanks also to the respective Principals and staff who made the whole day possible.
