Ngaruawahia High School Kapa Haka USA Tour 1998 - Page 185 The students who are almost all burning the candle at both ends are beginning to suffer from small ailments associated with tiredness. Sixty-six large suitcases were packed and literally stuffed into Richard Crawford’s room to await the bell-hops who took it all down to the foyer for the trip to the airport. Some did a final run up the strip before all meeting at 11:30am to leave in cars, organised by the Boulder City billets, for the airport. One of the group’s Salt Lake City billets traveled all the way down to Las Vegas to give them another send-off! The flight to L.A. was scheduled for 5:50pm and the group had six hours to fill. Some of the Boulder billets took their charges away from the airport in that time and returned them ready for the departure. Others stayed and entertained themselves in the airport. The bus from the Buena Park Hotel arrived at the Los Angeles domestic terminal to pick up the group. The bus had “Ngaruawahia School” pasted by the hotel to the front window for easy identification. This is the Hanford Hotel, just around the corner from the Buena Park Hotel. Buena Park had double booked (not expecting the group until the following day). The stay and the meal here were refunded to the group. The suitcases and the group transferred to the original hotel the following day.
