Upper North Island Netball
Championships
T
he Upper North Island Secondary
Schools Tournament (UNISS) Netball
Tournament is a Regional qualifying
tournament that sees the four top teams go
on to compete in the Netball New Zealand
Secondary Schools Event held in October
each year.
There were 46 teams this year. Most
teams were made up of their top players.
Our team was made up of Year 9 and 10s
this year.
Players at tournament also have the
opportunity to be selected for the NZ
Netball Talent Identification Camp held at
Easter the following year.

This year we sent a Junior Netball
Team combining of year 9s and 10s. The
girls enjoyed the experience and came
back fresh to play their Saturday Netball
finals. We hope to see the fruits of this
experience enhance their netball for next
year.
This year NHS had three teams
involved in the Hamilton City Secondary
Netball and they experienced some
fantastic results.
NHS Seniors played and won against
the Hillcrest A2 team by 2 points.
Ngaruawahia year 10 Team played
Church College (CCNZ) Gold and won
coming third in the competition.
NHS Year 9 Team played
Te
Wharekura O Ngatai Atea (NTW) Year 9
and won their final convincingly.
It was great to see all girls excited about
their results and we thank them for being
great ambassadors for NHS.
We would like to thank the following
coaches for their tireless efforts and
encourage them to come back next
year….. Seniors Team coach Adrienne
Don, Whaea Roa with year 9’s, and Whaea
Raima for year 10’s.
We would like to give a special thanks
to Whaea Hohi Moeke and Whaea Donna
West for their time and effort in supporting
our girls at the UNISS.
