eeks of training on our
beautiful awa led to the
6:15am
meet
at
Turangawaewae Marae on
Wednesday morning 29th
March. The last to arrive was
Carl with the school van, so
there was no chance of
leaving without him!
We had a quick breakfast
stop at Five Cross Roads,
then off to Rotorua, warm and
cosy in our vehicles. This
became important to us as we
arrived in Rotorua, welcomed
by cold and wet weather!
We set up camp and totally
missed the Powhiri! However
our seniors were suited up
ready for their first race.
Day 1 of the Nationals saw
the W1 (one man waka) and
the W12 (double-hulled waka)
races.
Our seniors were a part of

the 88 schools registered and
it was going to be a challenge
to advance to any semi-finals.
They qualified for the Bowl
Semi-finals and came third,
just missing out on the Bowl
Final.
The Juniors qualified for
