Wang Hao : Learn How to Face Failures

Wang Hao , one of the most outstanding table-tennis players in the world , is always the heated topic in sport field . Beside the excellent performances in numerable competitions , it is because he missed his Olympic gold medal three times that makes him a more controversial Chinese table-tennis player . He was born in Changchun Jilin Province . All of his table-tennis career started at the summer in 1993 . At that time Wang Hao was still a ten-year-old boy , his agile movements and gifted intuition to anticipate the direction of the balls sent by the opponent impressed the coaches from Changchun Physical Education School . At last , Wang Hao was admitted by the school as the youngest trainee . Though he was the most inexperienced table-tennis player but he must compete against older trainees , he would attack his opponents like a beast and not give up until defeating them . Therefore during the several years ’ practice , Wang Hao had been significantly improved , which lay the foundation for his career development in National Sports Center . The Egypt Open Tournament was the turning point for Wang Hao . He won the champion which entitled him one of the most potential table-tennis players in the world and qualified him to be the member of Chinese national team . Being the member of the national team officially started Wang Hao ’ career as a professional athlete . However , the latter part of his career is not as smooth as the previous . In 2004 , the Athens Olympic Games , he defeated his teammate Wang Liqin who ranked the first in the world and made it to the final against Liu Chengming from South Korea who lost all six matches against Wang Hao . When everyone expected

the gold medal in Wang Hao ’ s pocket , the remarkable turnaround and the worse-thenaverage performance of Wang Hao barricaded him from obtaining the gold medal by the final score 2 to 4 . The major failure is like a curse for him haunted in his mind . In the finale of 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games he was defeated by his teammates Ma Lin and Zhang Jike respectively . After the London Olympic Games people called him “ the perpetual silver medalist .”
