Wider school opening

Following the announcement that schools could begin to re-open for more pupils from 1st June, we have welcomed back a large number of pupils from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. We continued to offer places for children of key workers and vulnerable children from other year groups, and now all of our bubbles are full.

We are currently looking at plans to offer a day in school to pupils from Year 2 to Year 5 who have not been in to school since March, and we will be providing more information on this early next week. As you can appreciate, preparing the school to accommodate more children during a global pandemic requires a great deal of planning, sometimes at very short notice.

I am very grateful to the whole St John’s team for their help and co-operation during this time, and for their commitment to getting a bit of normality back for our pupils. The pupils in school have been, as always, exemplary in their attitude and enthusiasm, and have calmly accepted the safety measures that have been put in place.

I would also like to thank parents and carers for their support and understanding during what has been a challenging time for us all. We look forward to drawing a line under this phase of the Covid19 response, and a return to a more familiar school experience in September.

staffing news

We have a number of staffing changes to announce, as is often the case as we approach the end of an academic year. You will be aware that Miss Heyes will begin her maternity leave at the end of this term. We wish Miss Heyes an enjoyable time at home with her new baby, when he or she arrives!

Staff leaving

Mr Gibson will be leaving St John’s at the end of the summer term to take up a teaching post in Dubai. Mr Gibson worked abroad for a time before he joined St John’ s as a newly qualified teacher 2 years ago, and we thank him for all of his hard work here, and wish him all the best for the future.

Mrs Wright our SENCo will be leaving St John’s at the end of the summer term; Mrs Wright has secured a new post in Wolverhampton Local Authority as a Special Educational Needs Advisor for the Early Years SEN service. This is a significant change from the role Mrs Wright has in school, and is testament to her commitment and skill in supporting children with SEN and their families. We of course thank Mrs Wright for her immeasurable contribution to St John’s and wish her well in her new responsibility.
