NWS students in Anoka-Hennepin School District compete at Science and STEM Fairs
January and the beginning of February brought many students together to display the results of their scientific experiments at their school’ s science and STEM fairs. Many students will go on to compete at the district level!
Three CEMS students are 2014 Donaldson Science Award Winners
Blaine High School Center for Engineering, Mathematics, and Science( CEMS) won three of the four Science Museum of Minnesota Science Fusion awards for 2014. Senior Rodney Williams, Freshman Isabel Buganski, and
Junior Xaitheng Yang were named winners!
Science Fusion at the Science Museum of Minnesota is where science, culture and opportunity meet! A four-part series, Science Fusion brings together scientific and educational professionals with students and adults of all ages. Science Fusion celebrates African Americans in Science, Amantes de la Ciencia!, American Indians in Science and Asian Americans in Science.
Monroe Elementary School held their STEM Fair on Wednesday, February 5. Kinder- grade 3 performed classroom experiments and created display boards to show the results of their experiments. Older grade students worked in small groups and showcased experiments ranging from LEGO robotics, germ growth, crayfish gender and light, erosion and tooth decay! Many students went on to compete at Anoka-Hennepin’ s District level STEM Fair on Sat., Feb. 8.
Rodney Williams, senior at Blaine CEMS, is one of four 2014 Donaldson Science Award winners and was recognized during the African Americans in Science Event on January 5, 2014. Rodney has an extensive technology resume where he has been involved in classes and programs by Genesys Works. He has an internship at Target Corp. as a Client Support Specialist and was also elected Parliamentarian with the State Business Professionals of American program.
Isabel Buganski, was recognized on February 1, 2014, at the Science Fusion: Amantes de la Ciencia! event. As a freshman student at CEMS, Isabel stands out with her willingness to work hard, her leadership abilities and her strong work ethics. She never lets obstacles become an excuse for reaching her goals!
Xaitheng Yang will be honored on Saturday, February 22 at the Science Fusion: Asian Americans in Science. A junior at CEMS, Xaitheng is involved with Business Professionals of America and also plays soccer. He has participated in Video Game Design competitions and placed 2nd in the nation for the Future Game Designers Challenge in 2012.
