LIFE MEMBER BERYL NEWTON CELEBRATES 100TH BIRTHDAY
Beryl Newton, a Life Member of Maleny Bowls Club, celebrated her

100th birthday in October.
Beryl came to Maleny from Maryborough as a young school

and taught at Witta and Curramore schools (both schools have since

closed). Witta school is now the Witta community hall, and hosts the

monthly Witta markets. Beryl subsequently married a local lad and
spent many years ‘on the land’.
We are not sure when Beryl joined Maleny Bowls

Club; however it seems she has been a member for an
‘eternity’. She was president of the Maleny Ladies’
Bowls Club in 1959, 1969, 1977, 1991 and 1998 and
served in various management roles within the club.
She was also involved with the Maroochy and north
ved
coast district ladies bowls associations She is a patron
associations.
of Mooloolaba Bowls Club and has been presented

with veteran, super veteran and matriach awards by
Bowls Queensland.
Beryl is a very well read, learned lady , and one with a
strong and vital opinion, as those few of us who were

members during her final active years can attest.
