LAWN BOWLS ETIQUETTE
Bowls is a friendly game. Let the exercise of consideration for others, courtesy and good sportsmanship add charm to a skilful and rewarding sport. The following hints are to be complied with for the care of the green and the enjoyment of all bowlers.
• Flat soled shoes with no heel to be worn when on the green at all times.
• Bowls should be placed on the green and should not be dropped at any time.
• Do not stand on the edges of the green( the‘ plinth’) at any time or sit on the bank with feet on the plinth.
• Bowls should not be moved in the head until the last bowl has been played and the result decided.
• Players should stand at least two metres behind the player on the mat. Other players should stand off the green and on the bank.
• Do not delay the game by engaging in loud conversation. Keep your mind on the game and give consideration to the player on the mat.
• The players at the head are to keep still and not go to the head unless questioned as to the state of the head by the player about to bowl.
• Give information only when requested by the skip about to bowl.
• When watching a match, always observe strict neutrality. Normal excitement and interest in the game is to be encouraged and a good shot should be acknowledged with quiet acclamation.
Club dress
• Whites or creams are the traditional dress, with the club shirt. Blue trousers to match the club shirt are also acceptable. Mufti is the norm on Friday social / barefoot bowls and other social days that may be organised from time to time.
• On all days classed as competition, including interclub member’ s events, competition whites are necessary.
• New members are not expected to immediately incur the expense of fitting out in whites and mufti is acceptable for a reasonable time.
• However it will be necessary for new members to comply with the dress code when taking part in competition games as described above.
• Ladies’ dress rules can be obtained by reference to the Ladies’ President.
