Lincoln Elementary receives generous gift from Advent Lutheran Church

Advent Lutheran Church , located across the street from Lincoln Elementary School for the Arts in Anoka , recently closed its doors permanently . A staple in the community for over 50 years , Advent has made an impact on the neighborhood . Although the church has closed , it allowed one more opportunity to give back to the community .
Advent Lutheran members attended an all-school assembly at Lincoln on Sept . 24 to announce a donation of $ 124,195 to the school . Advent donated $ 1.3 million to the community after closing , and Lincoln was one of many to benefit from their generous contribution .

Members of Advent Lutheran Church have been involved with
Lincoln for well over 50 years , donating countless hours of volunteer service , food drives , school supplies , clothing , and other items for students in need .
The gift was announced by former Advent Lutheran Church members Kelly Carlson , Melodee Thompson , Dianne LaFleur and Sara Landgraff . n

Hall of Fame members honored at BHS and CRHS

The proud athletic tradition of Blaine High School and Coon Rapids High School were on display with the naming of new Hall of Fame members this fall .
BHS Hall of Fame class of 2024 includes Nick Bjugstad , ( award accepted by father Mike Bjugstad and mother , Janeen ) John Sundgren , and Paul Swanson . Blaine
Nick Bjugstad (‘ 10 ) was named Minnesota ’ s Mr . Hockey , Associated Press Player of the Year and Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year . Bjugstad is currently playing with Utah in the National Hockey League ( NHL ) and was honored with the NHL ’ s Man of the Year Award in 2024 .
John Sundgren (‘ 07 ) received All-state wrestling honors in 2005 , 2006 , and 2007 , amassing 142 wins which is the second most win all-time in school history . He won the NCAA national championship at 157 lbs in 2011 and was named St . Cloud State ’ s Male Athlete of the Year along with Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Year .
Paul Swanson (‘ 08 ) delivered a record of 97-12 including being undefeated in conference play from his first singles tennis position for the Bengals . Paul finished as runner-up twice and collected a third place finish at the Minnesota State High School Tournament as was named all-state three years and all-conference for all four years at Blaine .

Coon Rapids
Jim Roback served thirtyfour total years as a teacher / coach in the Anoka-Hennepin School District including 26 as an assistant coach for Cardinal Football and numerous other activities . He was is in the first class of Butch Nash Award winners , an award presented to outstanding assistant coaches in Minnesota .
Rachel Guentzel ( Bona ‘ 11 ) collected all-state honors in hockey and soccer and holds the all-time scoring record in school girls hockey history . She led the Cardinals to a third-place finish at state in 2011 while also being part of the U-18 National Team at the World Championships that same year .
Ally Anderson ( Heida ‘ 11 ) is a 21-time letterwinner in athletics and academics . She was a four-time captain , four-time team MVP , and seven-time All- Conference selection across soccer , cross-country skiing , and lacrosse , and was also named to the Allstate Team in soccer . n

Educational and enrichment classes are available for families with young children ages birth to kindergarten . Youth enrichment
The Community Schools program coordinates a wide variety of fun classes and activities to enhance your child ’ s academic and social experiences afterschool , in the evening , and over the summer .
