BHS student Heba Hussein named to Minnesota Youth Council

Blaine High School ( BHS ) senior Heba Hussein was selected to serve on the 2021- 22 Minnesota Youth Council ( MYC ), which is a collaborative of youth leaders that mobilizes their peers across the
Heba Hussein state to create equitable systems through youth-led outreach , education , and advocacy .
“ I applied to make an impact in my community and in education as a whole ,” Hussein said . “ Something that is really important to me is equity in education , especially with students with disabilities , students of color and the LGBTQ + community . I believe that everyone should have equal opportunity when it comes to education and this program is something that really advocates for that . I can make a big difference being on the council because we don ’ t just organize things , we are also involved with legislation .”
Hussein was selected to be one of four representatives from Congressional District 6 . Each year , 36 young people serve as Youth Representatives in the MYC , representing each of Minnesota ’ s eight congressional districts with four at-large members .
Hussein is the second BHS student to serve in the MYC , following Nick Armstrong who served three terms from 2018 to 2021 .
Hussein is active in the community and at BHS . She volunteers at PCs for People , is the Student Council President , a co-leader of Bengal Bytes ( tech club ) and a member of the math team and the National Honor Society . n

A total of 278 Anoka-Hennepin students named AP scholars

A total of 278 students from the five traditional high schools in Anoka- Hennepin Schools were named Advanced Placement ( AP ) scholars based on scores on AP course exams taken during the 2020-21 school year .
Anoka-Hennepin offers more than two dozen different AP courses to high school students which have been audited and approved by the College Board , a nonprofit organization of colleges , universities , secondary schools and higher education institutions focused on college readiness programs . Students who complete an AP course can take an optional exam and earn college credit , depending on their score on the exam and admission requirements at the college or university they attend . An AP exam score of 3 or higher ( on a scale of 1 to 5 ) earns credit at many of the nation ’ s colleges and universities .
There are three different levels of AP scholar recognition district students earned . These levels are defined by the scores received and the number of exams taken during a student ’ s high school career :
AP Scholar with Distinction is given to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of the exams . A total of 69 students from across the district earned this recognition .
AP Scholar with Honor recognizes students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of the exams . A total of 70 district students earned this status .
AP Scholar is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams taken . A total of 139 district students earned this distinction . n
